In a scene over saturated with “indie” music, it’s not easy standing out. But when you have something different to offer, then things change. Throw Vision fuse together simple ideas with a real eclectic taste of music to make some of the most unpretentious and unforced “indie” rock you’ll find.
Tiff O and Taja Cheek have been writing and making music together since high school with Tiff growing up around pop standards and R&B hits, while Taja studied classical music; creating catchy grooves based on mistakes made during her Debussy training.
Drummer Alex brings an Afro-Cuban/worldly rhythm to the table, which Taja and Tiff play with melodically; picking guitars and keys. Operatic and soulful vocals cast off over the grooves. Songs like “Mild Neu Year Pt1″ is an example of what I’m talking about.
Dreamy and moving structures on songs like “Alow” drift in and out of a climatic state, leaving you in a trippy yet controlled atmosphere.
Quick comparisons to groups like Here We Go Magic or Grizzly Bear might help categorize the band, but they have moments that hint towards earlier alternative rock like My Bloody Valentine and Stereolab.
There are a handful of demos and live recordings on the web and now after spending 5 12-hour days in the studio tracking these songs, they have a chance to make a very nice record in the proper format. But they need your help.
Right now you can help Throw Vision raise the money needed to complete the album through their Kickstarter campaign and get their music out and more readily available.
Check them out and see them live this Friday October 19 at Legion Bar for an Official CMJ Showcase presented by the Louisiana Purchase Company.
