Posted on by Sarah Bils

So you know all the kids at Blaqbook.com have really been hyping up this upcoming fest taking place in downtown Brooklyn. Believe the hype, shits about to get real. Here are some bands that you need to make a note of checking out, and this is on Friday alone!! Here they are in order of appearrance:

People’s Champs.
One of Brooklyn’s newest bands, people’s champs has successfully made their mark by creating some crazy ass genre mash ups. Known for mixing “experimental rock and soul from the USA, Latin America, and Africa” this band is one to peak your curiousity. Their debut album EP dropped in May 2001 so check that out and that have also performed and recorded with Beyonce, those are some big bragging rights. Check them out on Stage 1 around 7:45.

This is modern day punk-rock mixed with soul, blue, and crazy ass acid rock features NYC veterans of the scene; Laura Dawn (lead vocals), Moby (bass, guitar), Daron Murphy (guitar, bass, & harmonica) and Aaron A. Brooks (drums). Formed in 2008, their sound is like a drunken bar fight between John Lee Hooker and Kurt Weill or the desperate love-child of Big Mama Thornton and Robert Mitchum. . Check them out Frday Night on Stage 1 at 8:45

Lyle Divinsky.
Straight from the streets of Brooklyn via Portland, Maine comes this hardcore folk artist. Lyle has been described as an honest songwriter who sticks to the real roots of folk and infuses it with the strength of funk. He makes you feel like you’re hugging a pink cloud…. really, really good. Check him out on Stage 1 at 10:00.

Mother Feather.
Not much needs to be said about this one. Just go to their facebook page and look at their influences, if that doesn’t get your panties in a bunch I’m not sure you’re alive. Interests? “Rocking your face off.” Check them out on Stage 1 at 11:15.

Just because these are the big fish in the sea doesn’t mean you should sleep on the other bands.
