Brooklyn Indie Fest

Comandante ZeroComandante Zero
9:30pm By Melissa Tsui (www.fauxrealfashion.blogspot.com)

Electric light party happening here. Pixelation at it’s finest people. The afro, the fedora, white jump suit with neon orange mesh cut outs – they say don’t judge a book by it’s cover but it’s so hard not to when you see the set up here. Tricked out sounds is what sets this band apart. Pure dance party – get up and shake your ass – NOW.

Kendra MorrisKendra Morris
8:45pm By Melissa Tsui (www.fauxrealfashion.blogspot.com)

Smooth and sultry Kendra Morris in all black, stretch lace bell bottoms (where does one even purchase such an item?) mixed feminine vocals over rough tinged instruments. Loved the emotion and range Morris played with throughout her set.

PatchwerkPatchwerk
8:15pm By Melissa Tsui (www.fauxrealfashion.blogspot.com)

Eclectic doesn’t begin to describe this four piece band rocking the stage right now. A mix of rock and electronica with an experimental edge. As their sound became louder and louder the crowd fed more and more off of their energy. This band is no doubt the one getting the party started tonight.

The BloodsugarsThe Bloodsugars
7:30pm By Music Crush Girl (www.musiccrushgirl.com)

Some sort of tragedy befell the Blood Sugar’s drummer and he didn’t make it to the show till midset. But they persevered as a melodic and lovely pop trio with beautiful harmonies and groovy falsetto until he joined. Once in, he added a little spitfire and machismo to their sound.

7:00pm By Melissa Tsui (www.fauxrealfashion.blogspot.com)

Dandy inspired dressing – bow tie, striped shirt, wool sport coat and material blocked oxfords – Julian Vellard is playing his heart out on the keys. With his charm and playful tune it’s no wonder the ladies can’t turn their heads away. Now about the music, just plain fun. It’s music that is meant to make you feel good.

Mike ScalaMike Scala
5:30pm By Music Crush Girl (www.musiccrushgirl.com)

Holy saxophone and guitar solos, batman! Mike Scala and his band are kickin’ it Kings of Leon style. The band is heading on tour in Europe tomorrow, so this is their last show in the states for awhile.

Jeff TaylorJeff Taylor
6:30pm By Music Crush Girl (www.musiccrushgirl.com)

Jeff Taylor is the hardest rocking musician so far today, a little Talking Heads meets Slipnot meets Adam Sandler. This wiley foursome is bringin’ it.

Jamie Bendell
5:00pm By Music Crush Girl (www.musiccrushgirl.com)

Singer/songwriter Jamie Bendell sings soft, thoughtful songs about relationships and other foibles. Stripped down to a trio for this set – acoustic and electric guitar and keys – she usually has a bassist and drummer in the mix. The resultant scaled-back sound is more delicate and emotive.

Jon Sandler
4:30pm By Music Crush Girl (www.musiccrushgirl.com)

Winners of the most attractive band so far, Jon Sandler and the Fancy Band croon sweet melodic pop. Hints of Dave Matthews and John Mayer, but edgier with better tattoos. Or what would happen if Adam Levine from Maroon 5 and Tracy Chapman had a love child.

Michaela Anne
4:00pm By Music Crush Girl (www.musiccrushgirl.com)

Hitting the front stage now is folk-country singer-songwriter Michaela Ann.
With an upright bass and an affectionate twang to the guitars, she brings a faint hint of Sheryl Crow.
If you like country that’s more country than pop, she delivers.

My Glorious MessMy Glorious Mess
3:30pm By Music Crush Girl (www.musiccrushgirl.com)

The stress of a howling baby on my subway was quickly dispersed by the fun energy of My Glorious Mess. Playing melodic pop with just a hint of angst, this Brooklyn-based trio packs a punch. Xylophone, two guitars and keyboards help create their infectious, poppy sound reminiscent of an optimistic Elvis Costello. An EP comes out in a few months. Singles available now. Come get them!
