The guys from Gunfight! sent me a facebook invite to come check out their set at Bar Matchless. During the duration of the week I noticed more and more people from my hometown Collingswood, NJ were hitting the attending button.
Apparently the showcase that Gunfight! invited me to was being put on by Plantlife Music which is based and ran out of Collingswood NJ. Small world. When I arrived to Matchless I was shooting the shit with Carolyn Busa(CarolynBusaComedy.com) another Collingswood native and she gave me the 411. She told me that Gunfight!’s drummer had lived in Collingswood for a bit and her boyfriend owns Plantlife Music. So now the dots were starting to conneft.
Goodnight Lights set was about to start so I made my way into the stage area. I saw a few faces on stage that I definitely recognized. After their first song people started going crazy. I remember chants of “Schraeger Schraeger Schraeger!”. I immediately asked Carolyn if he was related to Rachel. “Yes, that is her brother!”
I also recognized the girl on the keyboard from some sporting events growing up if I’m not mistaken. But back to the subject at hand. I don’t remember music being this good back in my hood. If it was I probably wouldn’t have left. They definitely shocked the hell out of me.
Recently I’ve been running into so many good bands where it’s only a matter of people hearing the music before they’ll go the distance. Same goes for Goodnight Lights. Next time they’re back in Brooklyn I’ll be sure to let everyone know so you can all come out and check them out.
They’re all very solid musicians who absolutely love their job! Everyone of them was going nuts. But the lead guitarist(far right in the video) was in his own world. Talk about a show man. Great set. Great band. Great vocals. Good shit! I got my eye on you Goodnight Lights! See you next time you come back.
PS: Sorry for any spots that are dark in the video. I was trying to capture the crowd going insane.
