Last Thursday night I headed over to Pianos with the rest of the Blaqbook crew to watch our friends Monuments play. They opened up and kicked some ass, though they don’t have a set drummer yet, Bruno the stand-in rocked it out before heading to another show. I wasn’t going to stay much longer but some of the guys insisted I stay for the next band…good call.
The next band, The Courtesy Tier, is a two piece group, but you wouldn’t know it from watching them play, their sound is huge and full. The Courtesy Tier had catchy beats that undoubtedly got my booty shaking. Damn, I was impressed. Not many two piece groups get my attention but, these guys were amazing. I was going to leave yet again, but my friends in Monuments convinced me to stick around for more music.
The Yes Way is a 4 piece group that had a pretty sweet visuals behind them, with random clips of animation and old movies. The drummer was kind of a show off with his useless giant drum sticks, but I couldn’t deny that they were catchy. Once again, my butt started shaking. Their violin and guitarist broke it down and almost made me headbang. Bravo.
After The Yes Way there was one more band, I gave up on trying to leave at that point and stayed to watch The Prigs. A crazy, insanely energetic nine piece band that consisted of a trumpet player, saxophonist, and a keytar player. The keytar player looked like he was tripping face before choosing his outfit. It was pretty amazing. They were like a jam band, but way better. The Prigs played super upbeat dance music that even had corporate assholes dancing and spilling their beer all over their ties. I very much enjoyed shaking my booty and watching the wasted people dance.
Overall a very successful show filled with talented musicians. I would love to see each and every single one of them again. Hopefully sooner than later.
