There are few things in life that cause my knees to buckle. An intense kiss…tragic news… someone kicking in my knees, or the Willie’s Spicy Italian hoagie from Graham Ave Meats and Deli. Yes I said hoagie. I’m from Philly, typing “hero” just sounds ridiculous. But back to the sandwich at hand….
Where do I begin with this thing? Just look at this work of art. Only true sandwich masters can pack that much carnivorous love into a foot long roll. The meats chosen? It depends on the sandwich master and it depends on his mood. When I first lost my Willie virginity, they piled more than a generous amount of proscuitto, salami, and coppa. The second time visiting, Luciano took extra good care of me and made the beast with mortadella, spicy salami, and capocolla. Accompanying the meatgasm are spiced red onions, mesclun lettuce, sweet and hot peppers and the traditional drizzle of olive oil and vinegar. Not only do you get all of this, but it comes with a free bag of chips of your choice. All for only $8. What more could a hungry little Asian girl ask for?
Let’s be honest. Willie did not come close to fitting in my mouth (insert dirty meat related comment here), and I was only able to eat a quarter of the sandwich for lunch. However, this means 3 more future meals of deliciousness! They also have sandwich specials posted on the board that change occasionally and the boys there are super helpful and friendly. I feel bad for all the other delis on this block, they are no where close to the level of awesomeness of Graham Ave Meats and Deli for your hoagie, hero, sandwich, or panini fantasy.
Oh yeah, they also sell meats, cheese, fresh pasta, desserts and drinks as well. So, you know…scoop up some extra sausage on your way out too.
